When The Calgary Snow Turns to Water?

Thu, 08 Mar by Ken MacAulay

After the year 2018 has been to date we have had a Cold & Snowy Winter. By Monday March-12th it is supposed to go to +15C.If this happens we are going to be in for some “Serious Wet Conditions”. As homeowners there are a few exterior & interior items I would like for you to look at beforehand;

1- Make Sure all the eavestroughs are clear of ice & debris. The water coming off your roof has somewhere to go, 6-10 feet away from your foundation preferably.

2-“Safely ” take any excess snow off your roof .,( if you can’t do it call a pro ) there are a few in the Yellow Pages or on Kijiji. Make sure you get some references & don’t pay them till you are satisfied the job is done.

3- Check & make sure your sump pump is working correctly. I would even head to Home Depot or Lowes & pick up a spare & the necessary piping to hook it up if you need it in a hurry.Take a pic of your existing setup & show the folks at the plumbing dept of your favourite suppliers.Maybe PU a sump pump alarm as well.

We all are still too familiar with what the floods did to our City in 2013 … Let’s be ready this time.
